Penelope, a new one-woman musical, recently debuted at the Signature Theater, which is located just one block away from our Shirlington location. It's a modern twist to the Ancient Greek epos, a refreshing response to Homer's Odyssey, from the point of view of the wife left behind.
Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, is fed up and has some things she wants to say. With a glass of bourbon in hand, she takes the microphone to chronicle those twenty years waiting on the small island kingdom of Ithaca. With soulful music, this witty and thoughtful musical flips the script on the dutiful wife, as Penelope steps out of the background to claim her time in the spotlight.
Our Mom Eugenia was excited to cater the opening nights of this Greek-inspired performance. Over three nights, we prepared and delivered an array of Greek desserts such as baklava, galaktoboureko (milk custard pie), portokalopita (orange cake), milopita (apple cake), kourabiedes (almond butter cookies) and melomakarona (honey walnut cookies).
If you're planning a night out in Shirlington, why not come in for an early dinner at Our Mom Eugenia, get your Greek vibe on with a little bit of octopus and ouzo perhaps, then catch this stellar performance next door. It'll make for a memorable evening, that's for sure!
