St. Nicholas in Zakynthos, Greece
Our Story

We are a small family-owned restaurant that serves authentic Greek dishes at three locations in Northern Virginia: Great Falls, Mosaic District (Fairfax) & Shirlington (Arlington).

We served our first guests in Great Falls in December 2016. A few years later, we were invited to join the burgeoning Mosaic District development in Fairfax. We opened there in August 2020, during the peak of the pandemic.

We are so excited to offer a little slice of Greece to the people who live and work in Shirlington, where we served our first guests in March 2023.

Our Mom Eugenia, the chef

Eugenia Markesini Hobson has been a chef for the past thirty years. She was born and raised on the island of Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea in western Greece. She learned the secrets of Greek cuisine from her grandmother for whom she was named.

Eugenia’s dishes have received glowing reviews from the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal,  Northern Virginia magazine, Arlington magazine and several other local publications.

Eugenia has been married to our dad John for fifty years. They met in Athens while John was stationed in Greece with the US Air Force. Together they have three children - Alexander, Philip & Barbara - and six grandchildren.

This restaurant is named after our mom as a small token of appreciation for everything she has done for us over the years.

The Sons

Alex & Phil were born a little over a year apart on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the mid 70s. The family moved to Athens, Greece in the early 80s, where they attended elementary, middle school and high school.

Alex studied advertising & journalism at the University of Maryland in College Park. However, an interest in coding during the early days of the Internet led him to a job at the U.S. Senate as a programmer for their first web site, launched in 1995. He moved back to Greece in 1996, taking on executive roles with Greek companies such as Hellas On Line and OTEnet, retail chain Public and media conglomerate Skai TV.

Phil attended Bryant University in Rhode Island and Barton College in North Carolina on athletic scholarships, playing basketball. He then moved back to Europe, where he played professionally in Greece and Italy for nearly 15 years. Phil played the shooting guard position and was usually one of the top scorers on his teams.

Phil moved back to the States in 2011, while Alex joined the rest of the family Stateside in 2016. Both are married, with two kids each. In their spare time, Alex enjoys collecting records, while Phil coaches youth basketball.
